Full Tension Fishing

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2979/mmc8.jpg    This link will show you where and how your finger should move when learning the FTF technique. Thanks to Cphenom for putting this together.

A few notes about this particular technique....Medium sized reel is being used and the finger movement goes from 12 to 6. In order to maximize the buildup of the skill bar, you want to rapidly move your finger from 12 to 6 staying to the very outside of the reel. Once the reel leaves the "golden" status, more contact is being applied to the reel and a slightly slower swipe is used.

There are many uploaded videos about this technique on YouTube. Please watch some before continuing on. Just type in Full Tension Fishing and you will see the ingame screens.

Already coined as "High Tension Reeling" or "Full Tension Fishing" this technique works on the premise that you are consistently building up your special attack meter while dealing consistent damage to the fish as it gradually takes slack out.  Depending on your stats you may be able to wrangle in a couple big ones as well.  We can confirm this works both on iPhone and Android platforms and the technique will also prove to be successful while reeling in fish that "revive".  We will provide you with a video in due time!

A couple of important things to remember while employing this technique are:
  • Remember your finger cannot maintain contact with the screen, these are rapid short stroking successions.  (Your finger must touch and release and etc.)
  • This should feel rhythmic,  depending on the state of the fish one should apply more rapid successions with shorter strokes if the fish appears unconscious (stunned).
  • However if the fish is in an active state,  one should use a less rapid succession.
  • Ultimately, everyone has to get used to their own rhythm according to their stats and setup.
  • Test this out on smaller fish before trying with a high monster fish and wasting expensive bait.
http://fishingsuperstar.blogspot.com/2013/07/full-tention-fishing.html  (This page contains a list of rods that can, cannot, and used to be able to FTF). Things are constantly changing, but know this....Star rods from Star Seeker Sonic and above can, and always have been able to, FTF. You may find a high end gold rod that can do it, but don't be surprised if that changes quickly.

Please feel free to comment on this technique!  I understand this may be VERY FRUSTRATING to master.  However, the rewards are great, do not doubt yourself, and if it turns out you enjoy the game without this technique that is just fine.

    2. If you are patient and save for a Shark the Blood, you will never go back to gold rods and you will never regret it. Stars will be easy to get from that day forward.

  2. you can buy heroD or daybreak if you have enough gold. not red shark

  3. How come when I watched some FTF videos on YouTube their lines doesn't snap and no red hook appeared no matter how long the fight? I'm using SSF and upgraded to +15 but when I FTF and swipe skill twice, when trying for the third FTF my line would snap.

    1. Red hook has not always been around. There was FTF long before red hook was introduced. Now, with red hook, you've only got a certain amount of time. That is probably what you are seeing. The hook was always there (from what I remember), but it never changed color.

    2. OK no wonder I kept thinking and looking around a way not to get a red hook. Thanks.

    1. no. Star seeker will not work. The cheapest gold rod that can FTF is Daybreak unless you have a reel from those 300* card draws which I believe you can FTF with Hero A +11 and higher I believe.

  6. I need some advice.

I currently have a 3* tank and I would like to move up to a 6* or 9*. I have a Star Seeker rod and I can not do FTF. So I would like to get a new rod during the sale. I only have 850 stars right now and I'll probably be able to get that up to 950-1000 stars before the sale is over. So I can get the Star Seeker Sonic or Dual Infinity Rod. Should I get either? Would that allow me to move up to 6* or 9*? Or should I just save until the next sale? I also have about 400,000 gold. I can make gold a lot easier than stars, should I try to get the Aqua Emperor? Or are either of the star rods I mentioned better for FTF than Aqua Emperor?

Also... what am I suppose to do when the reel turns blue?

    1. I have the dual infinity. It works well for monsters and aw. Used to be able to catch gb, but not after the updates. I would recommend saving stars for stb or higher star rods. That's what I'm doing. otherwise if you are impatient, the dual infinity rod +8 works well enough for six * farming. When the fish turns blue, try to move the rod to where you think the fish will go, then let go of the reel.
Hope I have been helpful, as everybody has been for me...

  7. Wondering if I should buy twilight rod or save for higher? I want a rod that can FTF safely and also catch every fish in the game.

    1. twilight should suffice for now. Shooting star force is already able to catch most fish in the game, depending on your FTF technique.

I always tell myself settle for the best, and none like the rest.
but at the same time not paying the price without the sale.
so... continue farming and wait for the rod sale my friend !! (which is just over)

    2. I recently found out that FTF is easy when you have the right device. I spent the last 18 months FTF with a samsung exhibit. I got pissed and broke it while unsuccessfully FTF. I went and got the Galaxy S4 and OMG!!!! I have been FTF the wrong way. I was struggling for so long! I can land GB and BS with 9%+health just like Mightis video. I've never been able to do that b4. I use a 7-11 stroke as fast as I can go with OT+14 and assassin gear. This also works on Kindle Fire.

    3. Twilight is crap. Go for STB/SSF/OT instead. Twilight only has minor stat boost compared to STB, with fewer luck. STB can catch all fish in the game including the dreaded Bloody Emperor and all ancient fish (depending on how good your fishing technique, of course).

But if you want to settle for Twilight, I can't blame you. It can catch all the fish in the game too, but personally I don't find anything interesting with Twilight.

  11. What do you do when the fish dives/goes blue? I have seen some people reverse reeling but when I try that the line snaps.
    Help!!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Just reel right through it. When you are strong enough and FTF properly, the fish will not get far enough to ever dive. Cast short (10-13M). You should land the fish b4 it gets to 24M. That is the point at which it can dive. If if does, keep FTF just like normal.

    2. Thanks dinkdink - I didn't know about the 24m part.

  12. I saw a comment somewhere in this blog that in order to FTF smoothly the rod needs to be above +10. So let's say my training is all max, using assassin equipment all +11, and the rod is STB 9+. Will these be enough to catch say Silver scaled halibut or killer whale using part FTF and part low tension reeling?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No I don't believe that is the case. Its not the level of the rod that matters but the rod itself. You should have no problems ftf with stb at lv 9. And catching silver scaled halibut/killerwhales.

  13. Is there a list of the rods that can FTF?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Star seeker sonic is the first of the star rods that is able to ftf. Any rods after that are able too. There are some gold rods that is able to do it, but since the new patches its not even worth trying to ftf from other players experiences.

  14. I'm about to buy the ocean tyrant now that it's on sale and I have a question, should I upgrade with the scrolls or with the combine materials first, does it matter or will I get the same stats?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. combine only grant the rod extra effect or stats, for better stats and attk u should upgrade with scroll.
The better lvl of upgrade the higher and better the rod stats.
and combine only add extra stat and effect to the rod.

    2. How do the special potion up+1 work, I have 2 up to level 10 and 1 up to 13? When should I use them to upgrade my ocean tyrant?

      Delete
    3. Use 1 of you +10 when you get your OT to +9. ?Then use the +13 after you've gotten your OT to +11. Just go into your inventory, select the potion, then press "USE". A window will come up that shows you all the items you can use it on. Select your OT and it will automatically upgrade it without fail.

  15. the special potion +1 upgrade the equipment u wanna upgrade with 100% success rate, level 10 mean it can upgrade equipment lower than +10 by 1 lvl, if ur rod is +11 lvl u cannot use +10 upgrade potion, same goes with +13 upgrade potion.

    2. Yeah, but your stats are much higher Claren. Keep training gurmz. You are doing great! You will be able to land with STB, but your stats will probably need to be higher. Use the combining materials to increase your damage. It won't be long before you can get GB.

    3. Well, i can actually FTF a GB for some time, but i'm losing out more line than i can reel, at 30ish % the fish went too far, or snapped...

Guess i need to up my CTR a lot...
Well at least i can steadily catch AW now, bigger flow of stars...

BTW, i noticed that egg drop rate with AW is way much bigger than with 3* fishes.. is it just my bigger luck with STB? is not that much of luck increase from Candy Gold Plus though...

    1. FTF works for like 20 seconds in MNP. After you got to do it the old school way.

      Delete
    2. That's correct. FTF shouldn't be used at MNP without expecting it to break. There are a couple theories out there that talk about when and how long you can FTF. I don't use it unless I have to. It will work for a bit, but it WILL break if used for too long.

  19. It's interesting how things change around in FS. last night I caught my first GB and then a couple more and also got a couple of eggs. Caught a BS for the first time and got an egg from that (lucky). This morning I have gone back in to try my luck on a couple more friends and cannot get anywhere near landing either the BS or the GB - weird !!
Only thing I can surmise is the GV move the algorithms round from time to time and that this affects us all in different ways.

  20. I am level 34 and trying to learn FTF using a star seeker sonic +9 on my ipad. I can maintain the tension all the way easily without breaking my line and overall this seems pretty easy, I am just confused because my skill bar doesn't hardly go up at during the FTF which makes it a lot harder to use if I can't stun the fish. Am I doing something wrong? Was there a patch at some point that made FTF not work? I am confused, fill me in please :))

  21. Mastering 2 Finger FTF : Catch Giant Barb/Bull Sharks or more.
    -I'm currently using AE +15; Hunter's Reel (I don't have other rods)
Reel 1 to 5 o clock (vertical line down). find your rhythm, use both both index fingers to reel in. (edge of the reel UI). My tempo is usually around 0.5s per finger reel
*Using this method, you do not need crazy/tiring fast movements, make sure you time your own rhythm. PRACTICE. Make sure each fingers do a full 1 to 5 reel.

-IF your tempo is too fast, you will make mistakes. e.g 2 to 3 o clock reel (the fish will pull further away from u); fingers colliding.
-IF your tempo is too slow, your line will snap.
-Make sure fingers reel on the edge of "reel UI"; if your fingers is too near to the centre of the reel UI, your reeling will be ineffective.

Attn : Use big reel UI for beginners(Settings>Settings>Reel Size). Small reel UI reel in faster but risk of mistake is higher.
