Ancient (EPIC) Fish

Everything you'll need to know about where and how to catch, value, and EPIC effects!!

Ok, so here is a compiled list of all the best info we have gathered so far....

You can catch Boss Fish with Boss Bait available for purchase at the item store. Boss Bait costs 100 stars for 50 baits. Boss Bait will increase the frequency of bites from the Ancient Fish you are trying to catch.

FTF will work on the Ancients, however, about the time you fill the Skill bar, the fish will go "blue". At this point it is best to stop FTF and follow the fish with your rod tip. If you continue to FTF, the line will break!!

The Ancients are available at different times and different locations. It is recommended to change the time zone on your phone or tablet either ahead or behind depending upon the fish you are looking to catch and the "biting time" (the biting time posted by GAMEVIL and the actual biting time in your time zone may vary by one hour).

Have at least a full hour to designate to this battle as you will need it and then some! Most fish have not been caught within the allotted hour. This is where the adjustment of time zone comes in handy...

after battling for the hour, adjust your phone/tablet back another hour. You should pick up on the same fish, at the same site, with the same health left. More on that to follow....

When the battle begins, the health bar will be blue instead of green. This blue bar is the first 20% of the Ancients' health. You will likely go through 20-50 boss baits just to get through this first 20%. Battle the Beast through this blue bar and the health bar will become full and green. It is here you can really strike. It seems the Ancient gets a little easier at about 75%. You will likely have to purchase another 50 Boss Baits to complete the catch. You will also be able to RETRY (for 4 stars each) up to 10 times per day. It is recommended you save these RETRY uses for after you have gotten the Ancient below 80%.

  1. not sure I like the idea of having to spend that many stars when there are several easy to catch monster fish that are worth as much as 9 stars... come on, why waste 50-100 stars on baits and retry's for 6-12 stars? sure some of the bonus's are somewhat helpful but there isn't really a way to check them, is there? I would like to see what the values of 'no dive', serenity, and so forth are before and after you manage to catch on of these 'ancient' boss fish

    1. If u select them in the illustrated book it will give you the range of the bonuses and that go's for all fish

  3. FTF on dino will only works for 10-15s max. Longer than that and your line will automatically breaks. You'll notice when you do FTF to the dino that you will get red hook very quickly. That's the sign that your line will break soon.
This also applies to rare and epic fish in Midnight Port. That's why we can't FTF all the way in Midnight Port.

    1. So when the hook is red, there's nothing we can do to neutralize it? Also when the fish counter, other than moving the rod with the fish, should I be holding the reel or release?

      Delete
    2. When you get red hook (worst part is when your hook icon's color turns to bloody red. Deep red color is still okay), you can do nothing about it except stop FTF and do the rest old-style.
Release your reel when an ancient goes blue. Don't worry about losing a distance because dino doesn't gain distance when he dash to left or right while in blue mode.

  4. question... it says that you must have caught all fish in area. does that mean you must have caught all fish in say riffle valley or all fish in blue fog mountain range? or must you have all 250 fish in collection book?

  9. Hi all! I realized the rod icon beside the tension bar turns red once the fish counter attack. Then the line will snap or break easily, meaning FTF will fail eventually. Anyone can advise how to overcome this?

In other words, the rod turns "weak" after the fishes counter attack. Anyone facing same situation?

    Thanks!

    1. @Joannew,

The way I am able to reel until the 60 second timer runs out is to not ftf. Use ftf technique but don't bring it to full tension. When the ancient fish goes blue and dashes across the screen... if your tension is low it won't break the line (sometimes it even knocks the fish out if you go in the correct direction of the blue icon dash. To slow the fish from running too far when the fish icon is red you have to tap repeatedly and rather swiftly. good luck

  11. megalodon is a joke i used over 20 boss bait and didnt even hook him.then when i eventually did i managed to take lime 2% at most before line snaps.so do the maths 20 baits * 50 (for 2%) is like 1000 boss bait and thats not includong the fact im gonna need 1000 tickets to actually fish for him....so if anyone has cought him and has any tips that wont cost me like 3000 stars id be very gratfull if you could share them otherwise ill just pass on tbe one

    1. I tried too. But I didn't cast more than 10 boss bait. Normally it bites within 10 .I stared to stack up my tickets now so I can go for him. U r right megalodon is a joke. Big ass shark in a port. Lol

  15. The ancient fish show up for back to back hours from 11pm to 1am central time and it doesn't regain health and if you use the SSS chum they bite more frequently and they will bite back to back cast most times

Feel free to send me anything you'd like posted regarding Ancient fish, as long as it is relevant, I will post it, but don't sit here and tell me I don't care about it when you were a week behind the original question and 2 weeks behind the last post!

  19. The only time I come across ancient fish is as I rush to get ready for work 8am est. I have been changing the time zone on my phone in attempt to fish any ancient when I have an hour to spare. But that doesn't seem to work for me. I even restarted my phone after the change. What am I doing wrong or does it no longer work?
I stocked up on boss baits and am waiting to give ancient fishing a try. Please help.

    1. Hey Pal, I have noticed that gamEVIL says PST, but it doesn't seem to adjust for clock adjustments we have here in the US. I have had times up to 2 hours off! It could be b4 or after. Usually screwups occur around daylight savings. If you're here in the US, it should be only 1 hr off time. I know tbaocope had an issue when ancients 1st appeared. I would prepare 1-2 hrs b4 and 1-2 hrs after as gamEVIL is a bit unreliable in this aspect....others...they are OK

  20. Stayed up till 3am finally caught my first ancient at Jade wharf.
The first hour was okay. By the second hour I was so agitated by the low bite rate that I just wanted to stop. Used chum hoping to improve the bite rate. Not sure if that made a difference in bite rate but it certainly made it more difficult when I do hook one - always either SS or SSS grade. Of course I got a S grade in the end.
In summary I really didn't enjoy the experience at all.

  21. Question... I caught my first ancients this week (I share Nest20's frustration/opinion). I have the Hybodus and Stomatosuchus and after having both at SSS for a few days, they have stat boosts of +3 Agl and +5 Att respectively. This is a long way off from +20 Agl and +39 Att maximums advertised. If I keep these fish in my aquarium, will the stats increase until they reach the maximum value or is what I have what I get?

    -CanOtuna

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't think the stats increase over time, WYSIWYG... that would apply to epic fishes as well if that was the case... just my thoughts (I haven't bothered catching ancients yet, tried once but didn't wanna waste bait/stars)

    1. Thanks for the reply. That would mean the stats range from 0 to whatever the advertised maximum value is and it is just random on what stat boost you end up getting from your epic fish. I caught an SSS ranked epic fish and I only got +5 Attack out of a maximum of +39. My conclusion is the epic fish aren't worth the trouble.

    1. I haven't even attempted any of the ancients yet. I have heard way too much disappointment from everyone with regards to the stat boosts, stars spent, etc. for me to bother with it. I really don't care whether I complete my illustrated book or not. I just want new and exciting things to come out that keep me interested in this game.

    2. I totally agree with dinkdink. I caught a few and I can comfortably say that you can get a higher stats from catching epic fish at MNP.
NOT WORTH IT. I only catch them coz I have no other new fish to catch. I believe that gamevil should be more creative and effective.

  28. CATCHING THE MEGALODON...
This is how much is costed me to drop the Megalodons health by 10%.
    10 retries = 40 stars
    50 boss bait = 100 stars
    50 invitations
    40,000 + in equipment repairs
    3 SSS chum
This means that you will have to be prepared to spend approximately:
1500 stars + 400,000 gold + 500 invitations + 15 SSS chum if you are thinking of catching the Megalodon.
I tried a couple of times and can comfortably say that it's not worth it.

    eelectro

    ReplyDelete
  29. x Eelectro: I think it is wrong to use sss chum to catch megalodon, should be used when the fish is 10% of energy (in the hope of taking large).
I have personally taken using 200 boss bait (those that are won with Lucky Cards 10000) and about 200 invitations.

    1. I've just tried to catch the megalodon and started over one hour. The bite rate is horrible low. (less than 1/15 ) and it recovers very soon. I've just wandered how you can catch this fish by using 200 boss bait! After one hour, the fish healthy is still 94%. I gave up.

  30. when we face Megalodon, best strategy is to start FTF straight away until the line break right? I watched a video on youtube about fighting megalodon, can't even see when the fish is doing "BLUE" attack, this is just crazy.

I wanted to ask, is there any other strategy that we can use to catch Megalodon?

by the way before we can fight megalodon do we need to finish all fishes (297 fishes) in illustrated book? or just caught all in midnight port? (listed with rare/epic)
appreciate any help from those who had caught Megalodon before, thanks

    2. damaging megalodon isnt a big deal. You should be worried about the bite rate instead. i just tried to catch it and i used up 100+ boss bait for just one bite from megalodon. i managed to take off 4 % of his life but before i get the 2nd bite his hp is 100% again. Now im starting to feel this game is kinda bullshit.

  33. My stats are off the charts....spent more money than id like to admit. Cant catch anything with 150 recover rate or higher. Forget the dino bosses, I wont even attempt thoes anymore. Killer Whale or higher its the same thing every time, FTF like a mo-fo and the fish just swims away....My total controll stats are over 3000 and go much higher with Expert and Master baits. There are many people on my friends list that have all the big fish and most of the Dino bosses and there stats are half of mine. The bottom line is that they know somthing I dont. Been on Utube so I know im doing it right but just cant real in any big fish. Help!

  34. Carching boss fish is an utter waste of money and time. Spend 400 stars buying baits and chum and 45mins. Wasted half of the baits trying to hook it, the last 5mins with 30% life i cant hooked it up at all. Like there is only one fish in the frinking pond. Fuck it. I am not doing it anymore.

  37. Not sure what is going on with Megalodon, but I was already fishing MNP when the Boss Fish notification came up. I switched bait to Boss Synthetic, made one cast, and hooked it. Cranked the reel three times and he was caught. I never even saw the damage bar. I have NEVER caught a Boss or Monster fish that easily. Did I catch on a glitch? So weird. I was using Blue Devil rod.
