Sweet Spots and Baits

So, as requested, let's try this new topic.
I've always noticed that some fishes respond better with a specific bait (or bait/chum combined) in a particular spot. I'll try to put up a list for the most elusive fishes, and any help given will be appreciated!

-Big Black Snakehead (Wapo River) - It bites Minnows quite well and almost anywhere...when it does. This is one of the fishes biting only at certain hours, my advice is to cast 20 minnows every 2 hours. Value 2500.

-Pike (Riffle Valley) - It bites Spinner on full left or straight, max cast. Better if perfect/excellent ripple. Value  900.

-Monster Pike (Riffle Valley) - Same as Pike. Value 2700.

-Pirarucu (Fog Lake) - I mostly hook it with Crank, but Spinner does as well. Matter with Crank is you can get King Pirarucu as often as you get the regular one...mostly biting on max cast left or right or mid straight. Value 1140.

-King Pirarucu (Fog Lake) - Crank. Same spots as Pirarucu. Value 2900.

-Alligator Gar (Secret Garden) - In my experience it bites Minnows and Shrimps best, full cast left or right. Value 1120.

-Nile Perch (Secret Garden) - I hook it only with Minnow. Hard to spot, mostly on mid cast right in ripples. Value 1260.

-Goliath Tiger (Secret Garden) - I hook it best with Crank. Full cast straight or mid-right in ripples. Value 1300 or often 1340.

-Mad Goliath Tiger (Secret Garden) - Crank. I spotted it mostly on straight cast, max or mid. Value 3200.

-Isurus (Clam Beach) - Crank + S Chum. Cast straight, no ripples, 35-38 m. Value 2300.

-Platinum Trevally (Clam Beach) - Spinner, max right full cast. Value 2700.

-Red Flag Isurus (Jade Wharf) - Spinner. I happen to hook it mostly on full cast max right. Value 3500.

-Giant Redfish (Sunset Lighthouse) - Minnow, I got mine on straight casts mid lenght or full right near the dock. Value 3600.

-Saw Edged Perch (Windy Area) - Minnow, Shrimp and Worm, best used combined with a B Chum to keep bigger fishes away. Cast far out on the right and left. Value 1940.

-Blue Marlin (Windy Area) - It bites S and B Worm at a very good rate, casting far straight, even no ripples. Value 1300.

-Sailfish (Windy Area) - Spinner, it bites anywhere. Worm and Crank are very effective as well. Value 1700.

-Sunfish (Windy Area) - First thing to know is it always bites when you don't need it -.-' I mostly hook it on right and left casts mid lenght, using Spinners. Value 2700.

-Golden Wing Sailfish (Windy Area) - If you use Crank or Spinners during events to hook the Sunfish, be sure you'll hook a ton of Golden Wings...XD It bites almost everywhere even on short casts. Value 3300.

-Sturgeon (Manglo River) - It bites only at certain hours, best using Minnow. Cast full right perfect/excellent ripples. Try 20 minnows every 2 hours. Value 1700.

-Angled Sturgeon (Manglo River) - Same as Sturgeon but bites Spinner as well. Value 2800. Very easy to reel in.

-Panda Grouper (Coral Bay) - Paste works very well, any grade. Better if you go for ripples. Value 820.

-Sky Emperor (Coral Bay) - Any bug amd even no ripples, everywhere. Value 920.

-Blackfin Barracuda (Coral Bay) - I hook it on Crank, cast left in the middle of the stones around 19 m, even no ripples. Value 1900.

-Tiger Barracuda (Coral Bay) - Crank, bites everywhere easily. Value 2900.

-Tarpon (Black Rock Beach) - Crank best but also biting A/S Worm, cast mid full left or max from 12 to 2 o' clock. It often shows up on the right in the middle of the little rocks. Better to use S Chum. Value 2340.

-White Tiger Shark (Black Rock Beach) - Bites Crank and on a lower rate Worm, S Chum helps. I usually hook it on max cast from 11 to 1 o'clock, but it bites also on very short cast. Value 3700.

-Tiger Shark (Deep Blue Hole) - S-Earthworm serial eater, it really seems to love this bait, but Crank works too. Lately I found out it bites S Paste at the same rate as Earthworm. Easy to hook on the right mid lenght, but it can bite anywhere. Value 2700.

-Big Abyssal Ray (Deep Blue Hole) - Hard to spot it, but it bites Minnow, I hook it mostly on short casts, no sweet spot. Value 4200.

-Wels Catfish (Kalde Lake) - Easy to spot with Minnows, it bites everywhere but likes mostly the ripples on the right in the middle of the rocks. Value 2500.

-Black Hole Wels (Kalde Lake) - You'll probably end up having 50% Wels and 50% Black Wels if you cast Minnows far and looking for ripples. Value 3500.

-Atlantic Halibut (Paho Shore) - Minnow is the most liked bait, but Crank is reported to be working too. It bites at certain hours, but mostly on 40 m casts from 11 to 1 o'clock.

-Silver Scale Halibut (Paho Shore) - Same spots as the Atlantic Halibut, but the Silver Scale bites also on short cast, use Crank and S Chum helps too. Prepare yourself for a long fight!!! Value 4500.

-Northern Pike (Emerald Fjord) - Use Minnow and you'll hook a ton, no particular spot but mid to max cast. Value 2400.

-Red King Taimen (Emerald Fjord) - It bites Spinner and it's also quite easy to spot anywhere, but it's veeeeery strong! One of the most challenging boss fishes in game :) Value 3400.

-Atlantic Wolffish (Weird Rock Bridge) - Well, this guy is one of the most elusive fishes in game, it mostly bites on mid casts about 35-40 m 11 to 2 o'clock...but on a very low rate! All you can do is cast your Minnow and cross your fingers >.< Crank works quite good too they say....but not for me! O.o Value is 3300 but soooo challenging, this fish is crazy!

-Sawtooth Black Wolf (Weird Rock Beach) - Same as his little bro Atlantic Wolffish but he likes Minnows. Value is 5000, be careful when it dives!

-Blue Dot Ribbon Ray (Evening Sunset Wharf) - I got the spot! :D Veeeery elusive but you'll hook it if you keep casting C Worms combined with A Chum and you'll get it. Value is 1500.

-Golden Ribbon Sea Bass (Evening Sunset Wharf) - Spinner, max cast from 12 to 1 o'clock seems to be the  sweet spot. Expert Bait is a good alternative (it's just another Spinner). Value 2700.

-Meteor Sea Bass (Evening Sunset Wharf) - Easy to hook on Crank or S Paste, no particular spot mid-far cast. Value 3670 or 4200.

-Great Barracuda (Golden Viewing Platform) - I mostly hook it on Crank, but Minnow, Spinner and S Shrimp work too. Cast anywhere but looking for ripples. Value 2940.

-Hallow Phantom (Golden Viewing Platform) - It bites Spinner and S Paste quite easy. Go for ripples. Value is 4600.

-Laced Moray (Whirlpool Cave) - Well what to say...you'll probably grow old waiting for one, but it bites Minnow on straight casts, max power or no power at all. Spinner, Crank and Worm are reported as working but honestly I never hooked one outside of Minnows. Very strong and diving often. Value is 3160.

-Thunderbolt Moray Eel (Whirlpool Cave) - The good news is that while you'll be waiting for the Laced Moray you will most likely hook this one :) It loves Minnows and bites well on mid or max left cast. The bad news is the value is 7700, so you'll probably regret you didn't hook a Laced one! :P

-Spotted Eagle Ray (Sunset Rock) - You always hook it when you need an Orca instead, but if you seek the Ray you'll get mad at it. Reported to be biting Minnow, Crank, Spinner and S Bug the same, on no power cast full right, mid cast left and full cast straight. Actually I hooked just one in my career -.-' Value is 3100.

-Opah (Sunset Rock) - Spinner works best for me, but Crank and Bug work too. I hooked it just twice, both time on mid cast right, but to little to put up a thesis...must be really elusive cuz while seeking for the Spotted Ray I hooked just one....value is 3300.

-Sword Fish (Sunset Rock) - I mostly hook it on Minnows and on long casts mostly on the center-right. Value is 3900, but you will often see it halved (19xx). You'll recognize it cuz probably your reel will be flashing gold.

-Killer Whale (Sunset Rock) - Crank works well, I hooked a lot of them casting at no power straight or far left. Value is 5560 or higher.

-Bloody Emperor (Sunset Rock) - Minnow eater, it bites on mid cast straight or mid-far left. Value is 14300 or 15700. Goooooood luck!!!! :D

  1. With the killer whale. How short of a cast does it have to be. And are you using the gauge or tilt method to cast so short. The shortest I've been able to cast is 11.8m

    Replies
    1. I use the gauge method and I sometimes manage to cast under 11 m just casting "on the return" of the power when it is almost empty.

    3. Actually I used the spreadsheet to add some data I didn't have when I did the "Collections" thread, but for this one I used only my memory, also cuz I have repeated some spots over and over in the last months while replying to other players' answers.
Btw if you use the spreadsheet, why the hell did you ask me for a list? :)
Cuz you could find the same infos also scrolling all past events posts ^^

    1. As I said already in the main post, the Snakehead doesn't appear every hour, you gotta try every 2 hours.

      Delete
    2. Snakehead? You´ll have only to cast Rookies Bait or normal Minnows on the left side. Bigger chance if you cast excellent or prefekt. Snakehead is the everytime. You shouldnt be to cheap. (Sorry for the english, i cant speak it well)

    3. Read your illustrated book.. Use minnows and throw it at max around 10-12 degree. Then search for ripples and gain excellent or perfect

    1. I catch sword fish quite a bit hunting for the orca. I usually find him mid to far cast on the right side about 2:00 on the screen using crank baits. I mainly orca hunt about 6-9 pm west coast time. Hope this helps

    2. Yeah minnows and crank are the best working baits. Mid casts are ok.

  7. Hey Ivy! I'm glad you can be so casual about the Soul Perch now;) The first hooking of a rare fish always pulls hard. If I break the line I usually hook a smaller one a few casts later on the same bait, so don't give up if you lose the first one friends. #cseymour

    1. The c worm and a chum spot at mid cast straight is the only one I know. And it always works for me, but sometimes it takes about 40 minutes for the first bite.

      Delete
    2. I did 5 casts each with S,A,C-worm and S,A,C-paste with A-chum for Blue Dot. First one on S-worm. C-worm and S-paste have worked since. Saw-edged bites on the right side. Mid-3/4 cast seems to work best. #cseymour

  10. Finally caught my first laced moray eel. I used minnow and straight cast no power just as instructed here. Took me 32 minnows to catch it. Also used S-chum. Thanks a bunch for the tip.

    1. After catching my first laced moray, the s-chum was still good for another 30+ minutes so I decided to try and catch my first golden ribbon sea bass using the hotspot mentioned here and after 28 spinners (some were not max cast since I can't be perfect on hitting the cast button at max all the time) finally caught my first golden ribbon. Now I must try for the great barracuda.

    2. The Barracuda is easy to hook....but to land him isn't very easy. I've hooked this Bastard several times and the line breaks over again. But then I tried it with FTF.....and it works fine....I land the Barracuda at every hook....but only with FTF

I try to catch now since time eternal the Hallow Phantom and Meteor Sea Bass, also FTF does not work. I've tried everything possible, but the line breaks over again.
I tried it with Twilight + 14 and Shooting Star Force +10 with Crank at Sea Bass, and spinner at Phantom (in addition to S-paste Ivy's instructions)

Stats with SSF: ATT: 2664; SKILL: 2419; CTR: 1685; LUCK: 92

  16. Hey guys :) first of all thanks a lot for this great blog. It is really helpful and answers almost every question :)

I have a (probably stupid) question to the "sweet spot" at clam beach to catch the isurus

Everybody is talking about catching isurus casting straight between 35-38m
My problem is that I cannot cast exactly this distance/straight
When i cast around 70%power it always lands at 34m or 38,5m
When I move the rod far to the left I can cast 37m but not straight?!

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. just the right timing.. a nudge on the power bar could mean a 3meter difference on cast.. ^_^

      Delete
    2. Thats the same distance that I cast too. Its always 34 or 38.5 and I've hooked the isurus many times. You should be fine. Hes just hit and miss when he bites. I've fished for hours and never hooked it. And other times caught 3 in an hour. Just keep at it.

      Tbaocpe

    3. My advice.... cast on almost max powers to mid or 10 degree.. it will bite butits very rare. Use crank and get perfect ripples.

  19. do not know if the translation is clear ...
when you're fishing in a premium site you can use a trick that can help you: If you have hooked a monster fish but do not like how the capture is proceeding (if you realize that you will miss) pause the game and make sure you stop the connection.
thus restarting the game you will have the chance to fight again with the same fish.
This allows you to not waste too many expensive bait.
I hope the translation is clear
